Millerville Road Improvements
SJB Group, LLC was retained by the East Baton Rouge Parish Department of Public Works to upgrade this 1.5 mile, two-lane roadway to a five-lane roadway with an approach tie-in to the I-12 overpass. This urban system work involved intersection design at S. Harrell’s Ferry Road and Millerville Road, turning lanes, and intersection signalization.
Initially, the firm performed a line and grade study to determine the most applicable route for the realigned roadway, the drainage impacts as well as analyze the various impacts of the realigned roadway in relation to existing home sites, businesses, and environmental issues.
Then the firm performed a drainage study, utility investigation, traffic study, and preliminary and final plans. The project involved extensive drainage and utility relocation and coordination and negotiation with local officials to minimize drainage impact on surrounding infrastructure and residence.
SJB completed a topographic survey of the area for design purposes and researched and prepared right-of-way maps to LA DOTD standards for land acquisition. Static GPC surveying equipment ensured that control for the project was accurately set and maintained.
The engineering design for preliminary and final plans involved many aspects of highway design including intersection and signalization design at the junction of South Harrell’s Ferry Road, hydraulic analysis and design of a subsurface drainage system, improved horizontal geometric design to comply with current AASHTO standards, as well as coordination for the relocation of existing utilities in the area.
