Comite Drive Roadway
Reconstruction and Widening
SJB Group, LLC was retained by the East Baton Rouge Parish Department of Public works to provide engineering and surveying services to upgrade approximately two miles of an existing two-lane roadway with open ditches to a three-lane facility with subsurface drainage. In conjunction with this project are the design of a new wastewater collection system and a bridge crossing over a bayou.
Initially, the firm performed a line and grade study to determine the most applicable route for the realigned roadway, the drainage impacts as well as analyze the various impacts of the realigned roadway in relation to existing home sites, businesses, and environmental issues.
SJB completed a topographic survey of the area for design purposes and researched and prepared right-of-way maps to LA DOTD standards for land acquisition. Static GPS surveying equipment ensured that control for the project was accurately set and maintained.
The engineering design for preliminary and final plans involved many aspects of highway design including intersection and signalization design at the junction of LA 64 (Plank Road), hydraulic analysis and design of a subsurface drainage system, improved horizontal geometric design to comply with current AASHTO standards, wastewater collection system with corresponding pump stations and force main distribution, as well as coordination for the relocation of existing utilities in the area.
