Critical Path Method Analysis
Retainer Contract – 700-99-0503
SJB Group, LLC’s Construction Services Division was again selected by the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (LADOTD) to perform Construction Time Analysis services using the Critical Path Method (CPM) of analysis for statewide construction projects. The Retainer Contract, which has a program ceiling of $1,000,000 and a four-year term, will be performed under separate Task Orders. SJB Group has now had an active contract for these services for over a decade.
As part of the scope of services, SJB Group will employ the CPM technique to construct and to review models of LADOTD projects that include a list of all activities required, the earnings and duration of each activity, and the dependencies between the activities. SJB Group uses this information to calculate starting and ending dates for each activity, determine which activities are critical to the duration of each project, and quantify the amount of “float time” for activities that are less critical. This will allow LADOTD personnel to prioritize activities for the effective management of project completion alongside the benefits CPM scheduling brings to the contractors. SJB Group will also check for plan errors, determine cost estimates, and provide any value engineering or construction proposal concepts related to the design of projects, as well as provide training for LADOTD’s Project and District personnel in CPM and the use of Primavera software.
CPM scheduling helps the project team: develop, implement, and communicate plans for the Work; set, monitor and measure production rates; document progress; prioritize use of resources; and manage change. The technique is particularly effective when project stakeholders use partnering to complete the work.
